That's assuming that all panels are outputting their max all day every day. Obviously not the case, since night and clouds exist.

Those seem like they are out west, so besides night, they should get fairly good utilization (western China is very much like inner western USA).

It really depends on the publication's target audiance. For the less technical reader an estimated power output converted to "households" is a good unit of measurement. I think maximum capacity in Gigawatts works well for CleanTechnica.
