Tesla compares their crash rate to, and I quote, "all vehicles from all manufacturers" [1], rather than to comparable vehicles, or even just western vehicles. The IIHS statistics say they're more accident-prone than other luxury cars and other electric cars. It would be interesting to compare Autopilot's crash statistics to other driver assist / AEB systems, rather than to all the 10-year-old base-model cars on the road.
