I think you're rather putting it on a pedestal. for the truck-driving contingent of haskell programmers such as myself, i assure you i'm not interested in theory much and simply enjoy haskell as a 'better java'.

May be "better than java" in your use case, but it's not "better java", as it's nothing like Java at all.
