Using Typora for WYSIWYG markdown editing using inline LaTeX and a LaTeX-like theme (http://theme.typora.io/theme/Academic/) has been a nice middle-ground for my most common use-cases of homework and notes. Full LaTeX is wonderful but feels like overkill in many situations.
