Also a whole load of numpties in higher management who dont see the value of proper architecture and how it will prevent bad things happening in the future. Because the architecture is invisible to them, they fail to see value.



This isn't higher management's fault in any meaningful sense. Maybe they should educate themselves so they can stop hiring fad chasers. That's about the extent of their responsibility.

Things like what this blog describes exist because the technical people hired are engaged in one long, giant act of bike shedding and resume padding. They're supposed to be educated and experienced enough to know better. They often do, but because the fad chasers are also the interviewers even the ones who know better go along with the silliness.


There is a difference between good architecture and fad chasing, the problem is higher mgmt never buy into it and so it never gets implemented correctly hence becomes a fad in their eyes, perfect example of this in software is agile


Of course there's a difference between good architecture and fad chasing. That's what I understood the article to be about, in fact.
