Below the Root: A story, a computer game and my lifelong obsession (2015) (stahlmandesign.com)

I discovered this series through the 1984 Commodore 64 game only a couple months ago [0]. Fairly advanced for its time, it let you choose your race, gender and age, gave you a large set of commands, and combined adventure, RPG and platforming mechanics [1].

The books depict a very imaginative world setting, with an interesting take on pacifism (where violence and malice seem to have the same taboo as sex does in some cultures in our world.)

The game is also unique in that its story was written by the author of the books herself, Zilpha Keatley Snyder, and serves as an official continuation of the book trilogy. I think it's a underrated series that deserves more recognition.
