What's the legality of firing someone over unsubstantiated rumors?


Most states in the US are at-will employment, so other than the few protected classes (which wouldn't cover rumors), you can be fired for anything, or even nothing.

Hmm, I clicked a few links from that page and ended up at an article about Giles Bowkett being fired because someone said he was a child molester.
