My company has a Magento webshop. The amount of money thrown at it to keep it 'fast' is amazing.
Wish they trew it at me to build a fast webshop. Unfortunately they think Magento is the standard.
No, I mean only the database. You might or might not get away with the app also running there but most of the time some load balanced 2-3 small frontends will give you much better buck for your money.
