It's driverless. Why does it matter which side the backup driver is sitting on?

I assume raverbashing's point was that a LHD system might have certain programming in place to handle passing a cyclist on the right side that behaves differently when the cyclist is on the other side of the road.

If that were the case, it would likely also have been driving on the wrong side of the road.
