UCSF just finished migrating all of their business systems to a remote datacenter (Washington state). These two events are probably linked. Running a data center in the heart of SF isn't a good plan for a variety of reasons, so my guess is the logic was "if the hardware isn't here, do the people need to be?"
(Not saying that's a good plan)
