Ask HN: Please help me improve my StackOverflow hiring ad
0 points by cherif on May 19, 2010 | hide | past | favorite | 3 comments
Hey guys,

Coming to you guys again for advice. Paid for this ad on SO last week:

http://jobs.stackoverflow.com/?7056

And so far I got 1 (low-quality) resume. Can you please help me improve it so that it is more attractive to job-seekers?

Thanks!

Your ad sounds like you're looking for a senior level PHP developer/UI designer/database developer/marketing guru who will take over and turn your product from a blog-hosted platform to a real solution without any salary compensation, leading to the assumption of non-preferred stock in the single digit percent range. Based on the description of the company, the person you seem to be wanting to hire would seem to need more experience in everything than everyone already involved. You don't list the expected type of work (do you need backend developers, or someone to fix the UI, or will it be performance improvements, a complete change?) and the job position isn't even listed on the company website underneath careers.

All in all, it sounds like 3 people who can pay the bills but not the salaries who are in over their head and need someone to come in and work for minimal equity to save them.

NOTE: I'm not saying that any of the impressions I received are an accurate depiction of the company, however, given the cursory glance, those are the conclusions I would reach as a job seeker.

Interesting. Will change the description to address some of your comments. The position is definitely paid (in salary, not stock).
