I'm a very qualified blk cod3r that just got turned down for a job at fb. I thought the interview went well, but I guess the interviewer didn't share that sentiment. Either way, I'm not mad...so just wanna preempt any attempt to suggest that we're not being held to the same standards as everybody else...

btw, got one lined up at the big G. Wish me luck! :)

good luck. i hope you get the job.

i've received my fair share of down votes in the past and i've learned a bit about the kinds of statements people disagree strongly with or find inappropriate.

but now it looks like someone down voted my expression of good luck to a job seeker!

interesting.

The absolute best interviews I've ever had either received no callback, or I was told that a better candidate was hired. Could you share your thoughts on why you think it was a race issue?

Uh? I did not at all suggest it was a race issue. Please peruse my comment

Oh, hm. I reread it, and it still kind of looks like that's what you're implying. I guess I don't really understand the overall point you're trying to make outside of anecdata. Sorry :\.

The point is that regardless of race, these companies still want the best and haven't lowered their standards to 'let certain people in' so to speak. Based on these 'diversity' headlines, it's easy to believe that these companies are 'letting' blk/his. folks in who may not be qualified; I'm saying this is not the case in my experience. Nor do I expect it to be...

Not saying that I disagree that the standards aren't being lowered, but that conclusion doesn't necessarily logically follow. Where you only have one side of the data for your anecdotal experience, it's also possible that you didn't do well enough in the interview for the well-meaning-but-super-racist bias of lowered expectations to bridge the gap.

Anyway, good luck with the interview process and I hope you land something great.
