I've always been more of an idea guy than an implementation guy. Witness my nearest claim to fame, a concept video of a next-gen desktop UI, as of yet without an interactive prototype.
My current obsession is narrower in scope: to try to shake up the staid landscape of desktop email (on the Mac, initially). I have all the basics worked out and am in the process of building a spec, but right now, I simply lack the expertise to take it to the next step. My options appear to be:
A. Complete a formal functional spec and get quotes from contract development houses. I'm able to self-fund a bit, but that probably won't be sufficient.
B. Keep ploughing through Objective-C and Cocoa books, and eventually build the whole thing myself (probably throwing out the entire codebase several times).
C. Concentrate on developing my Interface Builder and high-level Cocoa skills and find a contractor (or even a co-founder?) with the architectural chops.
Which of these is probably best for a UI designer-turned-developer? Am I missing some important alternatives?
