Seriously — do this. I’ve twice had the experience of walking into the retail store of a major UK network, supplying my mobile number, name, date of birth and postcode, and walking out with a replacement SIM card activated for my current number. In both cases I subsequently complained loudly to the network management and received apologies and assurances that the retail staff were not following protocol, training procedures would be reviewed etc.
