I'm speculating here:

This could be a SHA256 or a SHA3 hash of a "commitment message".

I have seen this done by people who then some time later post the original message, to prove their suspicion of something since that earlier date.

I had found this as well, but it was marked as flagged and no solid conclusions were drawn from the comments.
