The command line is more powerful. You can pipe git's output to any other command line tool (like grep). It's easily scriptable.

Also, almost all documentation/HOWTOs you read will assume you're using the command line.

You're right to be using it. Even if you're not a power-user yet, you'll get there in time and will benefit greatly from it.
