Agree with the idea of getting a foot in the door, but I don't think Android phone owners are very loyal.

I completely disagree.

My father in law won't buy anything else other than the Samsung Galaxy S series. To him it's not even android, it's a "Galaxy".

You cannot lump galaxy phones wroth the other Android phones because it is the only range that makes money for its parent.

Yeah, but the Galaxy is a line that avoided the fate that's being reported. The question is: do people have that attachment to cheap HTC and LG phones?

That is a good point...

I have an attachment to the Nexus series, but again that's obviously not in the same "tier" as the cheap HTC, LG, and even some bottom-of-the-line samsungs.

People are easier convinced to upgrade to a slightly better HTC/LG in the future, because "it's the same phone, but better". I understand the strategy.
