The Raspberry Pi is the equivalent of a hot glue gun (or duct tape) for the DIY/Makers. It's cheap, reliable and easy to use on any project. Even more so than Arduino (subjectively though)

Yeah, I would have liked to have seen something more like ethernet on the T100 (also very doable).

You could just solder an ESPY wifi chip to the T100 and have it communicate just fine over wifi, no rPi required ..
