I think it has something to do with using a 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 DNS server. I'm using my ISP's DNS server and it's loading fine for me.

> Gambling is not inherently addictive.

What do you reckon makes gambling go from not inherently addictive to a real addiction?

> This is what government is for

In my home country, the people building the robots and job destroying AI have captured all three branches of government, and have been saying for over 40 years that they'd like to shrink government down to a size that they could drown it in a bathtub. The government can't be relied upon to do more than move its military into our cities to violently stifle dissent.

> They'd probably do it happily even without a warrant

I'm old enough to remember when companies were tripping over themselves after 9/11 trying to give the government anything they could to help them keep an eye on Americans. They eventually learned to monetize this, and now we have the surveillance economy.

> There are no entry-level jobs, because "entry level" now requires years of experience

This was my experience leaving college in the dot-com bust 25 years ago, and I heard it was similar for graduates around 2008-2012.

Bill Maher rather famously lost his job on ABC 20+ years ago related to his comments about the 9/11 hijackers. I don't think conservatives cancelling people in the media for speech they don't like is anything new within the last 5 years.

Mini PC seemed to be the term that was being settled on, though I do see mini computer used where I'd expect to see nano computer as well. This is the first time I've seen anyone in tech use the term mini computer instead of nano, however.

Perhaps they're not teaching the under 40s what a mini computer is.

Tecnically, the IBMi seems to be the last survivor of the mini computer segment. Is HPE still selling Itanic boxes with VMS that could be called the heirs to the VAX family?

I grew up in an era of lawn darts, leaded gasoline, and Oxycontin. The end user is a test subject of all products.

You should add thalidomide to your list of "end users being test subjects gone horribly wrong" list, especially with the FDA being mucked around with these days: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalidomide_scandal

Lawn darts was fun though.

I think we're supposed to learn from incidents like that, not keep repeating the same old mistakes

I've been unemployed for months. In the last couple of weeks, I've been rejected for jobs as a pool cleaner, shelf stocker, and a state job requiring me to check multiple email accounts and watch security cameras. I've also recently been rejected as an overnight courier and software tester.

Whatever you imagine the job market to be like, I assure you it's worse.

Shelf stacking requires psychometric tests, another online test, a group assessment, individual assessment then 3 hours of free labour on the shop floor for another assessment! What world are we living in

I assume will end up working at Walmart or something. I have a disability, so I think the market looks even worse to me.

I suspect that the current administration isn't concerned about winning the hearts and minds of Angelenos.

Every city in the US has illegal aliens, but how many ICE raids are making the news in places like St. Louis, or New Orleans, or Houston - no, they aren't sending ICE to red states like they are to California, they are focusing on Los Angeles for the purpose of fomenting unrest so they can enact martial law. That wouldn't be so cool for their supporters if red states had riots, but their supporters love seeing liberal California with a boot on its neck.

Not that I totally disagree with your statement but one part....

I live in a very red state (North Idaho). They don't need to send ICE here. The sheriffs are all cooperating and lending county facilities to hold immigrants. It is safe to say the entire sheriffs department is basically a branch of ICE at this point. They have been targeting I-90 and US-95 heavily and running plates on every car along with a helicopter that basically just goes back and forth all day.

There is very little immigrant presence here (illegal or otherwise) but they have been catching work crews at random (usually under the premise of suspicious vehicle/behavior).

Spokane has been having CBP and ICE raids as well. Quite a few make the local news. Just doesn't get the attention like the larger cities do. Quite a bit of roundups going on out by Yakima and Tri-Cities, WA too. Which is part of why they are using county jails to hold people.

I live in New Orleans and I assure you ICE raids have been making news here and in the suburbs and Baton Rouge.

You suspect what is very obvious.

Very true, but I don’t think there’s been enough time to completely reverse years of training.
