Well I can understand your father better than you in this case. I bet time will come when you'll start appreciating what he did for you. Fathers are not like mothers, dude... Geez - dreaming for clothes and not appreciating a Canon SLR instead.. The time and the maturity will help you appreciate at some point you've had an amazing father.

Added context: my father didn't pay child support. I wanted clothes because all I had was school uniform and old hand me downs.

I would have liked to have eaten something other than boiled potatoes and peas in my birthday. I would have liked to go to the ice rink with my friends. Instead I got a camera I couldn't afford to use.

Dude, you so much reveal what a brainwashing does to the people it is just unreal. We've seen that behavior few weeks ago after the US elections. How the evil has come now what we'll do etc. It is really a sad there're people who decide theirs truth is the only valid one.

I think you don't fully grasp my point. But maybe I don't grasp yours. Can you explain further?

Not much worth arguing about in this thread. Multiple sleeper accounts and coopted accounts with the same talking points about how someone who used illegal means to sway votes should just be allowed to take the reins of power with a fine. It's not logical and isn't real discussion just the same nefarious actors using social media to try to sway opinion. Get that good nights sleep and I'm glad your country didn't succumb to this new method of warfare like mine did.

You automatically jump to “anything but fascism” as a solution but that’s not a solution at all. That was Harris & Walz do-nothing strategy advertised as a “just don’t vote for Trump.” This type of anti-campaign is fundamentally rooted at brainwashing us to discount any and all fundamental problems to be solved. Instead, it relies on their constituents to rely on opinions, rather than facts. Relying on opinions and beliefs aren’t inherently bad, but when an entire campaign doesn’t present any other reason to vote for them other than “you’re an idiot if you advocate for a party that claims their election was hacked” or “Think about your daughters future,” that campaign is gaslighting the electorate to believe detractors to those views must be anti-democracy. Lo and behold, 2024 results come in and now the losing party cries “There’s no way the majority of Americans like this guy, early votes must’ve been thrown out.” Congrats, you’ve been brainwashed to only see flaws when your ideas and beliefs aren’t validated and reach for any explanation that preserves your worldview- even explanations that you’ve laughed at when presented by the other side)

Having an assumption that those 5% were real is showing one is far from the reality of sociological "probing". Especially in Eastern Europe. It is far from a precedent and it has happened many times already in the past 20-30 years that the agencies are blind for certain candidates because... they're not paid to see them.

"Surface" is quite a bit of statement.

Did he just now realized that history? For over 30 years accepting contributions from the "enemy"? Then when the history is employed, how about he as a Finn bans also Swedish contributors?

The correlation of the historical anti-Finnish aggression with present aggression and direct new threats against Finland is fairly recent, and Linus isn't pointing to his awareness of the historical and present national context as a reason for the action but as a recent why it is silly to expect him to be lax about the legal advice that is the reason for the actions.

Did you just realized that Torvald is not racist or anti-russian at all? He didn't block any russian maintainers until today (more than 2 years after russia turning genocidal imperial again).

When the word "whataboutism" is used, you know it's the one rejection of a valid argument or analogy that helps clarify the argument. The ones that can't deal with that coined the therm "whataboutism".

"Whataboutism" was originally a valid criticism of "tu-quoque" attacks.

Now it's frequently used as a defense for hypocrisy.

Whataboutism isn't an argument, it's a deflection.

No, its called applying the same argument and same standard to both parties. Your "Laws" are equally applied or not at all.

Where's windows than?

That's great, but does anyone knows similarly accessible way of growing a fluorite crystal?

i'm guessing you can add dilute solutions of sodium fluoride and calcium chloride dropwise to a large beaker of water being constantly stirred, with a seed crystal in it? fluorite has a very non-negligible water solubility of 15 mg/liter and a reasonably high melting point, so intuitively i'd think this should be easy and fast

maybe the ingredients are hard for you to get tho, in which case you might be reduced to generating hydrogen fluoride from fluorite and an acid, then bubbling the gas into the beaker

the standard industrial method sounds like it would be pretty annoying to do in your garage:

> However single crystals for industrial applications are usually grown by solidification from a melt. The so-called Stockbarger-Bridgeman and the vertical gradient freeze processes are used for industrial manufacture of single crystals. The crystals are grown in a drawing oven and in a vacuum of 10^-־4 to 10^−5 mbar in the Stockbarger-Bridgeman method. A crystalline raw material is melted, so that a homogeneous single crystal is obtained with exacting control of temperature.

> In order to make the single crystals up to now the crystalline raw material is slowly heated in a vessel to the volatilization or evaporation temperature of water of about 400° C. and is maintained at this temperature in order to keep it free of water for some time. Additive scavengers, such as PbF2, SnF2 or ZnF2, are used to remove oxygen from the raw material. The added scavengers react with the oxygen present in the raw material and arising partially by oxidation and/or hydrolysis to form easily volatile oxides, which escape at these temperatures. After that a so-called refinement during a single week at 1450° C. usually is performed followed by a multi-week cooling to about 1200° C., in which the desired crystal is solidified from the melt. The single crystal so obtained is then cooled in a first slow cooling phase and then cooled to room temperature in a second accelerated cooling phase after the first cooling phase.

Oh boy...after the first two paragraphs it gets so wrong I even don't want to start arguing.

You got what is called Smyrna type fig - the type that needs pollination by the fig wasp in order to ripen. Since you seem to not have such a colony of wasps around, the figs won't ripen. If you want to grow and eat really good figs that doesn't require pollination, there're varieties plenty to choose from. You need to look and buy from a reputable nursery, not from generic store or nursery. Check with the community at ourfigs.com

I appreciate the response!

Now that I know this, I will probably remove the tree - eventually. It's near the deck and I don't want wasps around. Additionally, there's a big snake that likes to sun itself around the tree. Not that I mind so much, but a lot of visitors get really nervous!

One of these years, I'll get a better variety and plant it further up the hill, and move the stones that hold the heat that the snake likes so he can go hang out up there :)

> It's near the deck and I don't want wasps around.

To be clear - the wasps that pollinate figs are very, very small, and have no stinger.

They are roughly 1.5mm (2 to 4 times smaller than a mosquito) and you will almost certainly not notice them.

Like most wasps! Wasps get a bad reputation unfairly.

Wow what a great community, thanks for sharing. Got any other similar communities? There's also:

* www.bananas.org/

* tropicalfruitforum.com/

* permies.com/forums

I'm keeping a list because I find it difficult to find actual human stories about their experiences with certain plants and I'd like to some day build something to parse online plant-centric communities like these. Especially if they're this niche!
