Style nit: the transitions between dark-mode text and large diagrams with a snow white background are jarring.

You might be right; most of the traffic is bot-driven

I beg to differ. Bob Dylan's poetry impacted me much more. He totally deserved the prize.

Professor Dave Explains has a great series for those interested in learning Latin: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLybg94GvOJ9EcIVsQMJOj...

As a vegan who consumes plenty of legumes, I researched the topic and found this useful patent: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/88/c7/d6/daddb53...

I boiled it down to the following steps (pun intended): 1. Rinse the beans. 2. Soak for several hours in room-temperature water, replacing the water 2-3 times. 3. Soak for several hours in ~130°F water, replacing the water 2-3 times (I use Yogurt mode on my Instant Pot, as it lets you set a temperature and hold it for hours). 4. Cook'em as you normally would.

Cooked beans freeze well, so I usually make large batches and freeze them in Ziplock bags for later use.

Interesting, 130f appears to trigger the enzymes to break down oligosaccharides and anti-nutrients - thanks for sharing

I wonder what the overall effect of this war will be on global warming. If you put together the awful pollution caused by the battle itself and the reduced oil and gas production that follows, it could be a net benefit. Sure, it's a sarcastic pov, but I'm trying to cling to the positive here so be nice.

Not only is it pushing production down, but the resulting high prices are almost certainly going to cause permanently lower demand in certain sectors and countries ("demand destruction").

I would love to see a complete accounting in a year or so.

Not necessarily. It's going to massively drive up the demand for coal and wood consumption where it used to be (comparatively) less-polluting gas. We won't really know until 6-12 months have passed and we've collected the data.

What's wrong with the name Wiz?

Nothing wrong with Google taking a Wiz

It makes me think of the 1978 movie "The Wiz" starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and Richard Pryor. Despite the big stars, it isn't generally regarded as a very good movie. Maybe updating "The Wizard of Oz" with disco music wasn't a good idea after all.

That movie was based on the stage musical, FWIW.

I actually like the concept behind it. It just doesn't have "this is going to be a success" vibes.

Getting your cloud 'wiz wit' in Philadelphia would mean having melted cheese on it.

Whizz is onomatopoeia (well, ish) for urinating in English

And "Witz" means "joke" in german.

Yeah, but it’s pronounced differently. Germans are bad at English pronunciation. A couple of examples: BBQ ~> „barbicue”, Pampers ~> „pempas”.

Wichs also means ejaculate. Wix even had an ad where they made fun on “wichser” (Masturbator) on German TV.

Billy Whizz is rhyming slang for Jimmy Riddle.

Nothing because Nobody Beats the Wiz.

I’m the wiz, I’m the wiz! And noooooobody beats me!!!

So Israel is at fault of the Iranian government slaughtering 30,000 of its citizens just last month?

Oh, so the Iranian government didn't shoot its own citizens en masse? It's just Zionist propaganda? Interesting

Israel is at fault for spreading those false rumors, yes. Just like Iraq having "weapons of mass destruction". Same people lying to drag the US into unjust wars.

Why is Dick's Sporting Goods in the top 3?

It has a step counter in it that gives you loyalty points. So people are walking around all day with the app running to get a free pair of shoes.

I’m not sure why everybody else likes it, but for me, the Move feature gives me 3 points per day for doing what I already do (10k steps, 3mi run, or 30 active minutes). It makes the $10 rewards flow in more quickly.

It's just $10 every ~3 months, right? Not nothing, and at no real cost, but surprising how much people care.

OP here. I'd appreciate feedback on the book I posted about, if anyone feels like reading or skimming through it.

I looked at the beginning, but don't plan on going through 140 pages. You might find people on the Israel reddit who would be willing to do that.

Based on what I read though: Your fundamental assumption that it is significant that you're an atheist and this is a religious conflict on both sides is flawed. Many Israelis are atheists or cultural Jews. Jews have no notion of a caliphate or intifadah. It is confusing and unfortunate that Israel is a Jewish state, but that was forced on it by the numerous persecutors of Jews in the other places they have tried to live.

Here is Sam Harris on the topic of Israel: https://www.samharris.org/podcasts/making-sense-episodes/why...
