As much as I like couch, declaring that it is better than mysql is overgeneralizing. The couchdb developers themselves declare that couchdb is not a replacement for mysql, nor should it be publicized as such.

I believe his point was that science and religion don't necessarily conflict with each other.

Yes, religion suggests things that have no use to understanding the world in raw science terms. Instead, it tries to find meaning. While I love science and the great benefits/improvements it gives us, it has not taken any steps (nor should it) towards finding true meaning in my life.

"Meaning" is an urge like any other. I'm sure we'll understand it as we learn more about the brain.

I think they conflict in the sense that people with that need to find meaning get strange ideas about the nature of the world. Of course it doesn't have to be this way, but it is often the case.

strange ideas about the nature of the world

You mean like string theory?

My suggestion is to make auto play an opt-in option for registered users.

That's exactly what I thought, especially with all the recent articles about lack of digital privacy. I immediately tried entering in my friend's unique username, only to be disappointed by the text "We cannot find that person".

I find PmWiki to be simple and straight to the point.

Some people compare gay rights with slavery (which I think is a bit of a stretch) and argue that though the majority of the population thought slavery was ok back then, it didn't make it right. That's certainly true, but one must also realize that the "wealthy and free" were big supporters of slavery.

The point is, being wealthy and free does not give one a more "correct" opinion than one who is not.

And I don't see a strong correlation between "wealth and freedom and gay rights". I see a strong correlation between gay rights and political image.

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. I've been in their irc channel for hours at a time, and all the community seems to be doing is helping people with their javascript noob questions, even if they aren't related to Mootools.

The documentation is rather straightforward as well. It's pretty easy to figure out what something does.

Perhaps your contempt is outdated?

Couchdb. Easily scalable, understandable data storage using JSON and REST, built in Map/Reduce, open source, built in replication and doc revision, and it's not SQL!

Well, of course, with a language this sort of thing is possible. The beauty of the method described in the article is that it's built in the database system itself. No "language" is required (besides simple javascript for a view).

No one said couchdb was required. This article is simply showing how easy it is to accomplish incremental reduces.
