We recently launched an AI-powered mental health app that provides users with 24/7 emotional support and counseling at a fraction of standard costs.

The app is built on top of LangChain and leverages LLMs to have natural conversations with users to help them work through emotional issues, stresses or traumas. Users can chat anonymously with our AI assistant which is empathetic, non-judgmental and always available to talk or listen.

Behind the scenes, we fine-tuned an LLM model with over 50,000 anonymized conversations with mental health professionals to enable it to have helpful discussions covering topics like depression, anxiety, grief, relationships problems and more. The system guides users with CBT, mindfulness, validation and other techniques clinically proven to improve mental health.

We focused extensively on ethics, privacy and security in our design. Conversations are end-to-end encrypted. Sensitive personal information is never collected or retained. The system is programmed with strict guidelines to avoid harmful, unethical or illegal suggestions.

Our goal is to provide inclusive mental healthcare and emotional support to those who can't afford or access traditional counseling. So far we've been able to offer our service at 1/10th the hourly rates of human therapists. And the always-available nature makes it convenient for use anytime, anywhere.

We just opened access publicly and are eager to get feedback from the HN community. What are your thoughts on using LLMs for mental health? How can we make this technology most helpful while safeguarding against potential harms
