Same in Greece, that came last in banning smoking in closed spaces since the last 5-6 years! Funny thing, now our clothes in taverns don't smell smoke anymore, but meat and garlic.
Coming from an essentially smoke-free country I remember being in Europe 20-odd years ago, going out to dinner with friends, and having everything absolutely reek of stale cigarette smoke afterwards. It was quite a shock when you haven't smelled cigarette smoke for years to go into a restaurant where you could barely see from one end to the other through the haze.
The authors reaffirm an expected result, they didn't find anything disruptive (pun intended). With age imagination leaves and experience arrives. The former advances science, the latter doesn't.
The decades long observation seems to hold gain: Reps were always near the oil-military complex and their main policy after elections always aims to offer them huge profits. An almost theatrical war with a puppet oil producing country achieves all goals. They don't care about people, environment or the world. It will last as long as their benefits outweigh their costs.
Alternative names for Linux Foundation is Open Source foundation, User Space foundation or something totally unrelated like Future of Software foundation.
Sometime in the past I realized that Ted was a media mogul that was not part of the Jewish controlled system. Later they bought his network and I am still searching for another independent voice and not find any. He was the only one and there will be no other again.
Maybe we should have the balls to admit that these two obviously good things are good and maybe, if you give free humans good things, and they decide to have fewer children, then that is good too.
AI, in the form of LLMs, should be used as an augmenting tool and not as a substituting one. The human must conceive the idea, design the solution and fill most of the gaps. The AI will only refine, improve and suggest options upon an already existing base. As a parent I promote such a use to my kids, rather than ban AI which is futile and might become dangerous in the future.
Dementia, at least of Alzheimer's type, starts at least 20 years before symptom onset and is multifactorial, so much that no single factor plays a role ("explains the variability") more than 5%. Employment, as almost all other factors, like having family/kids, higher education, wealth etc etc, might be a correlative or a confounding variable, depending on the study design because the disease mechanisms are so long and convoluted.
In the egg and chicken dilemma, I believe that the cognitive decline causes the social inactivity and not the reverse. Get your retirement because that will not cause your dementia.
This reminds me GPT-4 era studies where the LLM was better in a Law school exam than a student. We are not in 2023 anymore, or in the case of medicine, are we? If yes, this is bad news for health related applications as the low hanging fruits in LLM have been cut off.
