I believe the reasons behind a hostile takeover are a push from billionaires who control the government and want to get into extraction business and the urge to throw out the ongoing presence of China and Russia.

That is factually incorrect flamebait. Closed source is made primarily due to a desire to retain control. While one can use control for malicious reasons, the predominant use is to make money.
