It all depends. I couldn’t work on a large screen, but having two is good, so I can have the code on one and the notes / web research/ AI discussions on the second. Constantly alt-tabbing means constant focus changes, I can’t see how that can improve focus, but if it works for the poster, great.

This made me happy. I had a second hand iPhone 13 mini stuck on 18.2 with no upgrade path other than iOS26 (which is not a good fit for the 13 or my eyesight) - now I updated within iOS18 and afterwards can update apps that require a minimum of 18.6. (like ice cubes for mastodon)

Amazon will happily ship you a Panasonic player (and you can get one of those that the firmware flashing people talk about). The current batch that would play 4K Bluray discs is really nice and as a side effect upscale DVDs to something that’s almost acceptable for normal TVs. No need to flash the firmware if you’re good watching content from your region and don’t mind skipping restrictions. The region problem is mostly about wanting to play American discs in Europe.

You could plan ahead and record and time shift. This isn’t as convenient, but no-one was removing content you didn’t get to watch. BTW, in countries like the UK recording TV - especially over Christmas - is still a way to build a legal personal archive. Streaming is better today, but don’t rely on it being better forever.

This works. The only thing I see missing is accessing it on a phone await from THE computer, so some kind of syncing would help me. I use Joplin to sync notes (and ignore it’s special task related features)

Minidisc was where the fun was, it sounded good and the Walkmen were small. I loved that you could edit the md. Which meant if you recorded off the radio, you could instantly have your favorite song on repeat (with DJs talking over the song of course, but it beat waiting weeks before something would be available) - never got a DAT deck because MD was so much more convenient. And then MP3 players came - those with Rockbox were peak fun.

If Sony mastered interface, a GUI for music rearrangement, they could have stopped the iPod and iTunes in its tracks. Apple took away some of the freedom that managing discs and tapes gave, with the upshot of a proper visual interface.

Writing from Germany the first association with Tesla is Musk and following that his Nazi stuff and involvement with the current US chaos. The brand name Tesla is burned and it will need years of good behavior to bring it back to neutral. If Tesla wants to sell cars here, they need a new company name.

I would have zipped it and put it into long term storage. Now that I can run llms locally and train them with my notes, I’d never have to organize or revisit old notes and could still get value out of them.

The Netflix recommendation engine probably only works for people that watch a lot of Netflix. For me it’s practically useless at guessing why I watch something and can’t differentiate between skips because something is boring or because I’ve watched it earlier on another account.

A much better, easier way to expose new content is the traditional way: send people on talk shows like Colbert and have them talk about the new shows. Netflix should do their own late night show on the service.
