Why would it be impossible? The only time I ever happened to stumble upon a GPL violation (more than 10 years ago) I explained it and they said "oops, sorry, we'll fix that". Worth a try, no? I don't think it's naïve. The cost of explaining is minimal and you lose very little by trying. Even if the odds of success are low, it's still makes sense to try as the cost of a lawsuit is so much higher both in time and money.
It's also just basic common courtesy IMO to assume someone made an honest mistake even when you suspect they didn't (because sometimes your suspicions are incorrect).
Your last sentence. Did you read the article and notice who put this into play? It wasn’t anyone on the left. Your comment is silly and diminishes the rest of what you said. Grow up
I interpreted OP as a criticism of the move, implying that it isn't enough to drive down healthcare cost in the US. Transparent pricing is something libertarians support, I would've thought.
This certainly depends on what the code does and on the use case, i.e. on how critical reliability and performance are. 10k code in a simple web application prototype that will be trashed in 3 months is not "a lot", because it's not critical and piling up technical dept is not a problem. 10k code to specify the core algorithms in a mission-critical, long-living system is "a lot", or at least "much more", because it needs to be crafted and maintained with immense care.
I think it is a big deal but short of going to war what do you think will cause china to change their ways? sanctions don’t do much. stop buying from china? good luck with that.
Not buying from them is the plan, along with oil from anyone. Long term I see this happening, almost inevitable at this point.
All you have to do is shut down the shipping lanes and stop the import of energy. We could do that from 1000s of miles away, far out of the reach of their navy. Of course they could go nuclear...
The best strategy is continued and increasing isolation of a bad actor, it will take time but they know they are looking out, seeing trouble ahead, and realizing how dependent they are on the US for survival. The changing opinions here is worrying them.
so are you saying that it is not ok to stand naked in the sun at noon for 15 minutes ? our bodies producing 20k IU is harmful? what idiot designed our bodies!
