There are so many Financial podcasts and analysts that feel like this is all a nothing burger and the US will just keep on plugging along. Prof G seems to think everything will be ok, Tom Lee, The Compound, etc. All are in the camp that everything is going to be fine, just a speedbump because the USA is just to big to feel anything. Markets will continue to climb, the bull market is still chugging away. Nothing to worry about. Don't agree but what do I know compared to these guys...
With all due respect: the author states in the FIRST paragraph that while recession is NOT most analyst’s base case for 2025 he was going to stick to his contrarian reputation and lay out his case for a recession prediction. RTFA then comment?
One can look at the Model S trajectories to see where this is all going. I was looking at a 2018 Model S 75d with 100k on it in very good condition (Texas car). Owner was asking for $18k with lifetime SuperCharging Free. With the additional Gov Tax Credit ($4k) on the used Tesla, the car is a good deal (S14k).
But if I were to consider a used Tesla, I wouldn't pay more than what a battery replacement cost. I could deal with the other problems like control arms and coolant leaks, but the replacement of the Battery/BMS is a risky proposition for me if it is no longer under warranty.
>While an excess of alcohol sugars can cause gastrointestinal distress (e.g., if you overdo it on these you can get diarrhea), in most people they do not cause secretion of insulin from the pancreas due to their distinct chemical structure (see figure of their structures, above).
The same is true for the first group of non-sugar substitute sweeteners I mentioned (e.g., aspartame, saccharin, sucralose), with respect to the lack of insulin response. In addition to studies confirming this, I’ve also documented this in myself for xylitol (my personal favorite), aspartame (Equal), and sucralose (Splenda).
False, read TFA. It says the opposite -- there are effects on insulin secretion and resistance for aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose. Only studies funded by the food industry say there is no effect.
What do you mean, false? The article makes a claim about the outcome of an experiment. He is making a different claim about the outcome of an experiment. What makes his false?
Not the aspartame specifically, but the phosphoric acid in (Diet) Coke can be quite soothing if you have a stomachache. Carbonation + phosphoric acid + a Gas-X or two will cure bloating very quickly... and very loudly :P
Anecdotal but I just purchased an Atto3 in Melbourne. Tesla wasn't even considered after Musk's behaviour and the value for money that the BYD provides.
The reason I brought the Atto3 was after talking to 4 or 5 Uber drivers with them who swore by them.
yes, they taught us in school that Denmark, which makes no cars, had significantly cheaper cars than... oooh wait a minute, they got sucked into the EU which does make cars... is it still true? how is this handled by EC policy?
Are you proposing that Denmark is a part of the EU because it does not produce its own cars?
Cars are incredibly expensive in Denmark (Not quite Singapore levels, but high). This, however, is more grounded in a cultural difference where walkable cities are preferred.
The US is incredibly car centric - to an extend where US trips can be directly read in my stress levels as measured on my watch. The US is so incredibly noisy and smelly.
Anecdotally in New Zealand I have several neighbours with new BYDs. In my same neighbourhood there are two Teslas (Model 3) and both were purchased over 5 years ago. No one in their right mind is buying a Tesla in this market, and not because Elon is a twat (although he very much is). BYD is just better value.
The base model 3 and seal are about $10k difference in AU (not a huge difference in that price range) and the BYD is slower with less range.
Personally every time I've rented a BYD (only the Atto admittedly) I've found the UI to be awful. The two Android screens are often out of sync on key information, and the interior looks like it was designed by Homer Simpson making a "future car".
No one is buying the Seal, it's the Atto 3. And 10k is about a quarter of the price, I don't know what you mean by "not a huge difference in that price range".
I think it would not be unreasonable to suggest this is the beginning of the end for the USA's participation in NATO.
Europe was not included in negotiations with USA/Russia concerning NATO or Ukraine. Trump is willing to sell out the entire continent and Ukraine for whatever Putin is offering. This is the state of America under this Administration and their version of "Making America Great Again".
It may be possible that Russia has influence through social media and propaganda inside the US to such a degree, that US administration knows their dependence on the Russia's goodwill.
Most Americans consume content alone through their screens and with the exception of social media owners like Musk and Zuckerberg, we don't actually have understanding what people are watching.
We do know however, that after buying Twitter, Musk fully embraced Russia's influence network instead of fighting it.
Administration may be under the impression that they are buying power and goodwill from russia and paying with Europe and NATO.
The Russians have been very generous with their tech and know how. Their investment in North Korea will massively increase pressure for other nations in the region to Nuclearize.
There is talk on defense blogs that China is carrying out so many war gaming actions and flying or sailing into Taiwan's airspace and waters that when an invasion comes, it will be difficult to tell until it is too late. They are exhausting the island's defence response and one of these times it will actually be a real invasion.
Nothing to stop them; America is no longer a deterrent under the Trump Administration.
