Here's the original for comparison. It's quite an improvement!

Are you sure this was a Roland SC? This sounded pretty close to just plain old Adlib. Of course any sound font would sound better than fm synth. What would be helpful is to have the track played on an MT32 or a Sound Canvas to do a proper comparison.

That's the thing about these old games: they were totally made for how the MT32 and later the Sound Canvas sounded to the point where they would even chose an instrument that would otherwise not be fitting, but which sounded good on the original device.

Unfortunately for me, all of this happened way before I had money on my own or could convince my parents to shell out the considerable sum these devices would have cost, so I really don't know how these games were intended to sound.

Which makes me really sad as a huge video game music fan/nerd.

Agree. I subscribed to their paid membership plan and it's not materially better than the free content. Well, I paid for the full year already.

Interesting. Any proof that he's not a fan of democracy?

From the article linked below.

Honestly, reading that over, his political ideology is a hot mess of inconsistency. I'm not exactly sure what the hell Peter Thiel stands for, other than his own pocket book.

That's what happens when you treat "libertarianism" as the immutable word of God. Doesn't translate to the way human society works.

I think the funniest thing is this idea that you can escape to space or wherever and enjoy a free society, as if all the problems didn’t come from humans in the first place.

If you are smarter or harder working than the schlub on the street, it is hard not to think that democracy gives too much power to those useless dubs.

How did you determine that you haven't seen many bad actors / reporting bias?

There could be issues around how to interpret this data, especially around stock. Those with a few years of experience are probably reporting a significant vested stock as part of the comp. Alternatively, there could also be cases where folks added the whole stock options that they were granted, even if they've not vested. The package that I got at Amazon as a fresh grad school graduate more than 5 years ago would've been $360K if I added everything... but that was not my ANNUAL comp. When I talk to folks at Amazon, they typically don't report the annual number, which is lower.

Agree, I'm a PM at a top software/internet company and engineers with half of my experience make greater package... Amazon is a mixed bag but FB, Linkedin (prior to acuisition), Google, Netflix all skew towards SWEs making higher packages when experience & performance are comparable
