Before you think of how awful this site is, remember youtube in the beginning as well. This could be a great alternative, especially if they don't remove people without a good explanation, sell your personal info or try to sway an opinion.

I was thinking the same thing. If it was all localized to a Pi then yes, but outside services isn't really DIY so much. Maybe half DIY if such a thing.
This is another example of what the GP comment is complaining about. It's not a DIY Alexa. Alexa is the virtual assistant API. This is a DIY Amazon Echo that still relies on the Alexa service.
As an engineer and a technologist, I agree that you and GP are precisely correct.
If you showed it to and asked a string of randoms off the street, I think way more than half would agree with the "DIY Alexa" label as reasonably communicative description and more useful than a longer but more precise title.
Besides the flooding and people either stranded or stuck at their location for weeks, not a ton of damage. The O&G infrastructure is pretty secure there.
The folks behind weather.com are actively trying to kill weather.gov through lobbying and other campaigns. Folks need to be made aware that their tax dollars are already being spent on top-notch science tools by folks with a vested interested in their safety.
They almost got their dream leader of NOAA when Trump appointed the head of AccuWeather, Barry Meyers, to lead NOAA. He withdrew his nomination for health reasons, but believes the government shouldn't provide any type of direct forecasts to the public. Michael Lewis has a good write up of this in his book The Fifth Risk.
I didn’t think The Weather Channel was available outside the US. I’m sure they’ll give you a forecast on weather.com but the company is American based.
