Are there any books among Project Gutenberg books that haven't already been performed as an audiobook? Assuming that all of the popular books in Project Gutenberg have an audiobook available to purchase read by a human which is probably better quality or at least more likely to be better quality, why would I want to pay money for this instead? I don't see the value proposition here.
I see why you'd think a human-read one would be better, but in my experience that's not the case. It's not that easy to read out loud and actually sound good.
I've spent a fair amount of time listening to free audiobooks (https://archive.org/details/librivoxaudio) including many that are out of copyright like these, as opposed to modern but in the public domain.
After listening to a few minutes of "Frankenstein" on his site, I would say that these OpenAI generated voices sound better than almost all of the human-read ones on Librevox, both in audio and performance quality -- these are voices that are designed to sound good, and they succeed at that.
You're right about the popular books, but the long-tail of not-so-popular ones doesn't have a human audio version, and probably will never have.
Plus, sometimes available human narrations are so bad that you really would like to listen to an AI one (I've experienced it with Churchill's audiobooks on Audible).
I don't know if it will work. It felt like it should work, at least for pSEO.
I got my first two audiobook purchases two weeks after I submitted the sitemap to Google. It was some romantic novels. But now it's flatlined again.
Does anyone really believe that an AI based on Reddit or Twitter/X data would somehow be more superior than other AI's? Or that it would somehow provide a snarky competitive advantage included with other data? I don't see it.
Superior may depend on your goal. If it’s mass disinformation campaigns produced by generative AI, those mentioned data sets may be ripe for the cause.
Dating apps should offer paid subscription plans that cater to people who are trying to use their social network for networking but not dating. It could reduce awkward situations and bring in revenue for their service.
Rejection Proof: How I Beat Fear and Became Invincible Through 100 Days of Rejection by Jia Jiang
Highly enjoyable read! This book really captures the entrepreneurial experience of interviewing for insights while focusing on the fear of rejection, which is a major problem that isn't typically found in most other books on entrepreneurship.
I interviewed there, and I thought their compensation strategy was disappointing to say the least. They basically pay bottom tier in every economic zone, and despite being a remote workforce, don't accommodate local economic situations.
I (an American) was temporarily living in Argentina. They wanted to pay me in Argentina pesos (that have a 20% inflation at the time, but currently around 50%). I mentioned how I plan on returning home to SF. The pay band was less than what I made at a seed-stage startup.
> I (an American) was temporarily living in Argentina. They wanted to pay me in Argentina pesos
Well .. yes? If you were Japanese in the US would you expect to be paid in Yen? It’s not like you were working for them in the US and they sent you as an expat. I’m sure they would have switched you to USD had you moved to SF
My residence was the US. I will admit, me working in Argentina on a tourist visa is a grey/black area. My residence to both the US and Argentina government was the US. My visa only allowed me to stay ~3 months.
The point about currency seems like a red herring, since it can be easily converted into USD, etc., but insisting on paying people salaries based on averages in their current location is pretty inflexible and remote-unfriendly IMO.
People may move around and have financial obligations in multiple countries. E.g., if you have a mortgage and school loans in the US, and you want to live in Armenia for 1 year, your employer insisting that you take a 80% paycut due to "Armenian rates" is pretty ignorant and inflexible.
My Argentina developer friends don't even get paid in pesos. Why should I (a tourist) be paid in the local currency?
I mentioned that Argentina has 20% inflation and locally businesses provide salary increases every 3-6 mo. They told me salaries are adjusted annually.
I don't remember their exact response when I talked about me returning to my residence in San Francisco.
I will second this. They get a ton of shit for not properly maintaining projects but damn do they try to constantly be moving forwards even if it’s not always super innovating.
What are your weaknesses? Finding someone who has the skills that compliment you are more important than finding someone with identical interests. In my opinion you would want someone to be independent and have their own interest and be willing to blend their lifestyle with yours. I'm married to an accountant and her technical skills and background are substantially different from my own. We don't have the same opinion on everything and don't need to be perfectly aligned to feel like we both have the perfect family.
