This is a case of things must get better before they get worse… Basic right in america have been declining for years now. And now its happening all at once.

As a college student in the past there have been few times when I found it worth it to purchase the course text book.
The quality of the text books themselves have also degraded over time which usually end up being a copy and paste from the previous year with different problems.
The average college student must also juggle 4 to 5 rigorous classes that each demand 3 to 4 hours of homework in a 24 hour day. It makes it very difficult to spend more than the bare minimum on any particular concept if you want to stay a float.
I do agree that the lack of attention span the writer points out is a real problem. I have seen few people even have the ability to read a textbook cover to cover.
