The military isn't afraid of them. And they do have the capability to take them down and are always developing new methods, including lasers like this. The issue is that cases of mistaken identity of sensor glitches or ambiguity do happen, and if you have trigger-happy people at the wheel (like the DHS in this case, and the DOD who stepped in to help lie to cover it up) it can spiral out of control.

I agree with this. Hopefully they're able to track down who did this. To upload to ADS-B Exchange you need an account. But it's not that difficult to get one. I'm not sure what kind of information they may be able to get on it. As you say the person who uploaded this may not be anywhere near there. The aggregators probably should have heuristics like if only one feeder in an area with a decent density of feeder coverage uploads an anomalous track, it should get flagged.

Why? Was anybody harmed?

Hopefully they don't find out who did this. There was never any danger, and without this kind of joke, the world would be less fun.

(Obviously it should be harder to fool critical systems, so this served also as a warning, but if you want to attack such a system, a real bad guy would do this in more subtle ways.)

The Biden admin went slightly harder against anti-competitive actions and anti-consumer actions by companies and all the billionaires freaked out and poured money into Republican campaigns in 2024 in order to roll all that back.

What was rolled back? There was no major change in action whatsoever, only rhetoric, which is meaningless. As for funding, Trump raised substantially less in 2024 than 2020 while Harris raised more money than any campaign ever has, by a wide margin. [1] Dark money also overwhelmingly flowed to the DNC. [2] And a large chunk of all of Trump's funding came after the previous administration tried to imprison him, which rather freaked people out - even those not particularly fond of him. That also likely played a significant role in the more DGAF presidency we're seeing today relative to 2016.

Does that include the $44b spent on the Twitter acquisition?

Enforcement.

Correct. Brave on iOS is worse than Brave on Android because Apple forces it to be a Safari skin, but they're still able to achieve some UI improvements over Safari, and achieve their built-in adblocking.

I feel like ICE cars put out such a quantity of exhaust that any HEPA filter you put on it would reach its end of life within a few hours of driving.

I've been saying for a couple years now that we need a healthy revitalization of shame in society. Sure in the past (and present) shaming people has been done for bad reasons but shame itself serves an important social function and I feel like there has been a collapse in its effectiveness, which has been very bad for society. People should be made to feel ashamed for certain things they do. It should impact them deeply and it should linger with them and be reinforced by others around them until they successfully make behavior changes. For example I see people lie pretty shamelessly and they suffer no lasting consequences for it. They should be stained with shame until they alter their behavior. People should not let them move past it and move on to the next lie.

It is about disincentivizing fossil fuels because there are negative externalities which are not priced-in absent the carbon tax.

I'm sorry, I can't answer that right now.

Here is Missing by Everything But The Girl on Apple Music

This is starting to make sense. In the past I've been confused at a seemingly useful question thread there and the answer from some other user there with some like "top support user" badge or something, is just not an answer at all, and then the thread gets locked because they deemed it resolved.

I think MacOS would be much more unusable without alt-tab, like this app is a critical piece of software that has to be installed on any MacOS machine I'm using. But it does sometimes miss a window, like it doesn't show up in the window list in alt-tab even though it is open. And then I have to use the three finger swipe up thing to find it. Not a huge deal but occasionally annoying, and I assume it is because they are limited in the access they have to this information, which Apple could make available if they wanted, but have decided not to.
