As corrosion sets in, the problem becomes bigger and bigger.

This fits within the scientific field of evolutionary linguistics (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolutionary_linguistics).

English has these words that your language does not, because it borrowed heavily from several other languages in the past. Having only one language would kill off that source for diversity.

Dutch also has one word for happiness and luck ("geluk"), although in Flanders you can use "chance" to express "luck" specifically (borrowed from French).

In some ways, English allows for more specificity compared to German, but the reverse is also true.

The Convair was the example of piston tech taken too far.

The same issue comes up with classic cars. Is a car which has seen many/most of its parts replaced (including chassis members, body panels,...), still the same car?

With cars it gets interesting because someone will repair the old parts, and build a new car out of them. Then you have 20 of the original 8 cars made.

Flemish here: I write 8 by starting in the mid-point, then to top left, around via top right to bottom left, around to bottom right and then back to the middle.

So it's horizontally mirrored compared to the way you do it :-)

I'm in Belgium, with two kids. When they were both in daycare (4 days a week), we paid between 500-650 euros per month, depending on the number of workdays in the month. We were paying the highest price per day, because we both worked.

So it's not exactly 1/10th the amount, but still a lot less.

Also, this was limited to a 1 year period more or less. There is a 2 year age difference between the children, and from age 3, the oldest started going to kindergarten instead of daycare, which is quite a bit less expensive.

A muffler restricts the exhaust and will lead to decreased power from the engine, even for properly tuned engines. Removing the muffler will remove the restriction in the exhaust and undo the power decrease, and also increase the noise.

This is not strictly true. Some engines work better with back-pressure, and removing or altering the exhaust without re-tuning usually loses power: http://www.formula1-dictionary.net/exhaust_road_perf.html

I can attest to that, my old Saab performed terribly (performance and fuel economy) during the time I was running around with a pierced and corroded exhaust mid-section flexi-joint.

Belgian perspective: every bakery has their own cutting machine, and when you buy a bread, it is cut just before it is wrapped. If you tell the baker beforehand that you prefer it uncut, you'll get it uncut. 15 years ago, it used to be the other way round: the baker would ask you if you wanted it cut, and would only cut it if you said 'yes'.

Bread in supermarkets can be pre-cut and pre-packaged (industrial, cheaper, and of inferior taste), but often supermarkets also offer freshly baked, uncut bread and have a cutting machine for you to use when you pack up your bread.
