I see a lot of biased posts on Hacker news regarding Bitcoin. How it will replace fiat, how it will revolutionize banking, how it will continue to go up in price.
The fact is that the technology powering Bitcoin is not great. There are better alternatives to Bitcoin, transactions still take a long time to finish on Bitcoin. And the alternatives themselves need to be refined too.
There are also still a lot of scam coins in play, I personally know a few founders (no relation and no business doing work with them), where they admitted to me their coin was a scam in them getting rich.
So I’m skeptical, very very skeptical. These “friends” got rich off poor chaps looking to make a quick buck. I am almost envious, then I remember that the feds or IRS or some other institution will come after then at some point.
One of them is paying off their current user base because they got hacked.
You're missing the entire importance of balance. Unfortunately, I'm not sure you understand what makes Bitcoin valuable.
It's a balance between: Decentralization, Security, and Speed of Transaction but still doesn't compromised on the other two.
Bitcoin is balanced with immaculate conception. There's no 'altcoin' that will be able to achieve this.
There has been some work being done by the EU to make a digital euro [0]. China [1] and the US [2] are also exploring digital alternatives. I believe if these alternatives are well implemented they are going to change banking forever. Banks could become a frontend to that digital infrastructure that would only add features to the network (safety, insurance, help keep your transactions anonymous...). Naturally, everything that I am saying is 100% speculation, but I don't see a world where the current digital currencies (Bitcoin et al.) get backed by the governments.
Lol this costs more than a Xbox Series X or PS5 for comparison and with Xbox Game Pass you’re at same value as AirPods Max but with hours and hours of entertainment. This isn’t worth $550 probably $200-$300 around AirPods Pro price.
Because telecom is dramatically more difficult to solve and the regulators don't have the competence - or the legal standing - to implement a good outcome.
With Facebook you can order them to split off Instagram and WhatsApp. That's a very feasible thing to do technically, and could be accomplished within a year. It's straight-forward compared to dealing with telecom.
So you split Comcast into a dozen baby Comcasts. You just changed absolutely nothing (and plausibly made the situation worse for a lot of people, as some of those baby Comcasts will suck even worse over time) because it's a physical location problem, it's geographically limited competition (unless you redo the entire regulatory structure re telecom). Each baby Comcast will dominate their little territory and then the re-combination will begin again, as it did with AT&T and the baby bells. Regulate that outcome away? That's the part where the competence and legal standing is a huge problem. Make it so the pipes are forced open and lots of competitors can use them? Un huh. You would have to entirely remake the telecom industry in the US, get us entirely different Congress and regulators, and overall that isn't going to happen for a few dozen reasons that would require paragraphs to explain fully. You know it's not going to happen, I know it's not going to happen, everyone knows it's not going to happen. So what would going after telecom accomplish? Not much most likely.
What does it even mean to split WhatsApp/Instagram? That changes nothing. They aren't even now connected. The only useful feature is to crosspost which barely anyone knows how to do and it's super useful for small NGO's and such where bigger players can just pay someone to do it manually.
Messenger and Instagram are now connected [0]. WhatsApp is one step away from being connected and integrated [1]. Even if they are not technically integrated, they will be logically integrated - one way or the other.
A lot of it is tied to the dog and pony show that is pre-med. You have 90% of the class interested in going to Medical/Dental school. So most students are NOT interested in the WHY but the How can I get an A.
Ok legit question, is Biden’s mental health an issue? (i.e. Dementia, Alzheimer’s). Surprised my family brings this up, and I’m not sure how to reply back to them..
My brother met him in an informal setting about two years ago, and expressed concern then over "wow he seemed really old / out of it". But Biden's current speeches and interviews seem lucid and coherent so maybe he was just having a bad day back then.
The presidency, like most other executive jobs, ends up being run by a team of people working together behind the public figurehead. I have faith in Kamala, in the White House advisors, in the picks for cabinet positions, etc. Biden will probably invite back many Obama-era advisors, as opposed to white nationalists like Stephen Miller. Decent people tend to build decent organizations.
So the kids grow up seeing their parents as just associates. Sounds healthy, what a great way to show your kids how intimacy, empathy, and a normal romantic relationship works.
50% of marriages end in divorce and kids are living in separate homes already. The co-parents do show love for each other, the child, and any other relationship.
This is for an internal app, makes sense that it worked out well for them because the internal app is mostly a greenfield project. Some resume padding and performance review check offs for those associated with the project, however this Kotlin Multiplatform is NOT stable enough for most large scale applications.
For starters good luck turning on / off features, handling UI state, and tying in the business logic to that state. And good luck mangling dependencies and build times with a new added Kotlin dependency :-)
The main use case where I've wanted something like that is that you want to pair an interactive chart with a data table. For example you create a crossfilter and want the table to list the observations that pass the filter.
I actually contributed an example to the Altair documentation that links a table to a scatter plot.
I agree though that the tables are hard to make and not very nice looking. I think it's just not really an intended use of Vega.
They do. Sketch Cloud has live web preview, developer handoff, basic prototyping, version control and more. It’s not as fully featured as standalone alternatives, but it’s free and works well.
