Peer review does not mean that the actual experiment, study or computer simulation was replicated by peers. It's more of a gatekeeper function. For example, if a paper entitled "Password Security Best Practices" suggested that it was OK to use your mother's maiden name as a password, then the peers reviewing the paper would flag it as nonsense and require the author to revise the paper accordingly.
But the point about readability is a good one. Papers are meant to communicate. Poor writing increases the friction readers experience, which diminishes communication.
No Rust code ChatGPT has ever generated for me has worked and it was a complete waste of time.
It once did manage to write a very simple Bash script that worked first time.
Calculators resulted in a generation that could not do arithmetic in their heads. Word processors with autocorrect resulted in a generation that could not spell. ChatGPT et. al. will result in a generation of developers who cannot code. And then we'll be hoping that the Enterprise will come along and help us maintain our infrastructure.
Given that no Intuit account was needed before this, it seems to me that this is about gathering additional personal information about the customer and not about providing a benefit to the customer.
Say hello to H&R Block's desktop federal tax application.
I switched from Turbotax to H&R Block because of Intuit's need to "register" the application with them before it would work. Like I need permission to use an app I already paid for. Like does People magazine ask me to register when I read the magazine on the John?
