I'm posting this a little early to see if I can get some additional user/developer feedback. I started this a few months back as a "let's see what I can do with AI" type of project, and it's finally gotten to the point where it's useful, so I wanted to get it out there for comments while I work on some other ideas I've got in mind.
Yes, this was heavily "vibe-coded", but I've also got 15 years of experience working on Python dev tooling, so I had some very specific ideas in mind for how this should work, and I've spent a fair amount of effort guiding the development to where I wanted it to go.
ah, a fellow tape monkey. Our "white room" had collected 25 years of old hardware and manuals back in the 90s. I loved trawling through it all. Best job ever.
I had something similiar -- Got so far ahead of the other students in 5th grade math that I got tossed into a computer lab with a bunch of original IBM PCs and several years backlog of PC Magazine and Byte to read through. I learned so much from those years.
I'm interested in NM (probably Albuquerque) as well. How's Los Alamos as an employer? Anyone from Sandia Labs around? Anyone else worth considering there?
Try a chromebook -- I'm typing this on a Acer Chromebook R13. Has a nice, bright, Full HD IPS touch screen, 4 GB of memory, and a 4-core ARM64 cpu (2 A72, 2 A53). I'm got a terminal window open running rust builds locally in an Ubuntu installation via crouton. I picked this one up refurb for $320.
Another Stuy Town dweller here. It's also a pretty good options for those of us with families. We have a nice park with play area outside our door. It's fairly quiet. And don't forget free heat, water, and electricity!
