For what it's worth you still need the alcohol wipes (mineral oil works well too) when swimming off the coast of Santa Barbara. It's naturally occurring oil that gets all over your feet in little annoying sticky spots.

yeah same for the Gulf Coast, oil just seeps right out of the ground at some beaches or at some times. There's plenty of man-made pollution to go around though.

Great follow up, i agree

You make some fair points here, but I'm unclear as to whether you're claiming Geerling's video is an example of an "overwhelmingly negative take on AI".

If so, my suspicion is that you didn't watch it.

he raises some good stats and examples of "slop" and dooming around code gen hitting a ceiling coupled with humans being bottlenecked all very true statements but overall lacking in showing that actually lot of people are using AI coding gen in open source with good success.

btw am I talking to a bot? all of your comment history is pretty similar with lot of emdash.

Not sure about price vs other options but note that for the $244 price you have to 3d print your own parts and supply your own rPi etc

There are no "language police".

I think about this quote from Ricky Gervais a lot. He's had more than a few controversies, which you may or may not agree with but I think his take here is apt.

"Please stop saying 'You can't joke about anything anymore'. You can. You can joke about whatever the fuck you like. And some people won't like it and they will tell you they don't like it. And then it's up to you whether you give a fuck or not. And so on. It's a good system."

OP said:

>I became the "don't say gay kid" at school after that

Making a point of trying to control which words other kids are using counts as policing language in my opinion.

If you want to make fun of bartender who is strict their, a prude calling them a homosexual is just a non sequitur not an insult. Its not policing language its someone calling you out and saying your a fuckwit for being unable to inteligentlly insult someone or describe a sitution. That's way I don't like insulting people by calling them gay its just not saying what i want to convey maybe thats the "don't say gay kid" but i think its just indicitive that the people who say that didn't get the point of what was being said to begin with. Aka up your insult game there are ton of insults that are way weightier than calling someone a homosexual.

I’m sorry we’re not allowed to tell people they’re a stupid piece of shit or even that you disagree with their hateful rhetoric. Only the people saying the worst things should be protected and have free speech, we should limit our speech out of respect for theirs

You wouldn't know her, though. She lives in Canada.

Ugh, thought at first you might be just being mean but a quick look at its other comments 100% confirms. I don’t understand — what’s even the point of such comment slop. I mean on Reddit it’s for karma and selling accounts or whatever. But here on HN?

Also, really the holy grail of YouTubers — he’s not concerned with clicks or retention. He has a day job, he’s not trying to do this full time or make a career out of it. I’ve been following him for years. Legitimately just an insanely smart person doing projects on his own time he thinks are interesting and that he thinks other people might be interested in too. It’s kinda crazy when it’s as simple as that with no ulterior motives or incentives.

Bad calls are not “soul”. There’s plenty of flair and tradition and flavor in baseball.

Would suggest you or anyone else watch Internet Shaquille's short video on "Why Are Recipes Written Like That?"[1]. It addresses your sentiment in a rather thoughtful way.

Seems like recipe websites are written to attract new recipe seekers, not return cooks.
