It’s important, as pheasants, that we maintain presence of mind around peasants, lest we become holiday meal presents.

To my ear, this all sounds very pheasant.

I’m 47. My dad’s mom, who I knew well, was born in 1910. Her father was born in 1857, before the Civil War. I always thought the span on that side was fascinating.

I miss the old computers on display, though.

Bacterial does, viral does not appear to. I am a survivor of bacterial meningitis and sepsis at eight months and fortunately do not experience any known side effects. However, the IQ effect is sobering.

It’s very common in Portland, OR — I had pork katsu this week at a Hawaiian place. Curry less so, but plenty of non-sushi Japanese restaurants around.

If anyone is interested further, I would highly recommend one of Devine’s latest talks, from Strange Loop:

Transcribed and video format. Among other things, they came into computing from a bit of a different direction and ended up building tools and a platform that I’m betting 90% of people in the industry would revere in awe as things beyond their understanding. Truly an inspiration.

They've been around for 15+ years I think. Recently found some clones of their repos that aren't available/updatable. Very fascinating folks and collective activity. More than just software-making

I am here for it.

The wildest part of this excellent software is that you can feed it WAV files of tape-recorded BASIC programs and it can decipher them.

No...the REAL wildest part of this is that I am old enough to have sat in a Radio Shack window display and using a TRS-80 and TANDY-BASIC I believe it was (?), and actually saved and loaded my attempts at writing games using a off-the-shelf Radio Shack cassette drive and a funky interface cord

OMG the crazy headaches that setup gave me...of course if you didn't actually press PLAY on the unit at the right moment after you typed LOAD in BASIC, the thing would hang...and to be honest...it loaded so slow that it often seemed like it hung when it didnt, thereby AT LEAST quadrupling the fun (not).

One thing good did come of it...I never once cursed at 5 1/4 floppies as they were a godsend compared to the cassette drive days

...and while your at it, get THE HELL OFF MY LAWN!

Same here, though with a TI-99/4A. I never had a drive on that thing, so it was always on tape, complete with handwritten odometer counts on the insert card for reference.

> It is absolutely everybody's job in the company to make sure it is profitable, unless you work for a non-profit.

Common misconception, but a non-profit needs to make a profit, too. It just gets invested back into the business instead of distributed to shareholders, or in fact to any individuals.

I am in love with 'fe', as well as the slightly-better IMHO 'aria' by the same author.
