I thought you did little to address the real issue, which is the lack of judicial oversight or input to the process of taking down a website, and the economic effect that it has on the owners. Lack of recourse or due process is already hurting the US, look at Russia's new law bannning using foriegn websites. There should be a way to adjudicate these matters, and the government should have to take responsibility for first amendment concerns by taking down website by decree not by actions of parties that have more at stake than the copyright or other issues.
to me the numbers show that album sales are down because of an unbelievable change in the way that people buy music today as compared to 15 years ago. Buying a single song has replaced buying an album. The RIAA is claiming that album sales are down like 90 percent. DUH... but that's not due to piracy, it's due to itunes raking in 9 billion dollars for the music industry. If the itunes downloads were the 10 dollars or more that an album costs..... well you can do the math. So downloading may be killing the record labels, but it's the LEGITIMATE downloading of songs.
If you think about it, apple takes HALF of the price of a download, so that's 18 BILLION downloads last year alone.
how many immigrants would it be necessary to let in the country to have one of these success stories?? If we let in only the best and brightest, then success is assured! But if we do the right thing, and let nature take it's course....Assuming that the person is a 1 percenter, then it would only take one hundred people to create wealth. On the other hand, the united states has 300 million people, if 25 percent of the successful startups are by foreigners, then that would mean about 75 million people would have to enter the country to create 25 percent. All for 15 or 20 THOUSAND jobs. What will the rest do??
it's the trade deficit that threatens the US (and other) economies. Overproduction by one country that refuses to fairly trade with another. China's weath increases should be trickling down to the masses increasing their ability to buy goods that they couldn't afford, either from China's vast supply chain, or other countries. Instead the chinese are buying american treasury notes to keep the money hidden, and keep us paying them forever creating invisible debt, as well as keeping a lid on the changes in society that come with a well fed, and powerful middle class.
Don't know if the previous comments are showing so here goes again, Linux Mint Debian edition, is the newest version to use Gnome 2 or xfce. I used the Gnome 2, 64 bit edition, worked great had a problem with the update from LM. Seems there's a problem with Grub, so after the update, you HAVE to deal with it using apt before shutting down the computer. As root, Apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, that's it. Uses the Debian sid repositories and latest kernel after the apt upgrade. nicely configured, working desktop, usual gnome stuff, and cups worked.
Nice job Linux Mint, and a great, normal desktop!!!!!!
