Prevents any dispute over the significance of a certain word or phrase being capitalized vs not.

If your contribution is to quote an old rap song and make a meta complaint about how people will react to you, then you're right - you don't deserve a positive reaction.

That book was seminal for me too and is the genesis for where I am today. Flanders' accurate criticism of "mystery meat navigation" was incredibly influential for me and still reverberates in my mind when I think about usability issues.

I agree. They have painted large concrete structures like this in cold weather places in the United States and they start chipping and deteriorating almost immediately. A deteriorating "public arts" project where untalented "artists" graffiti the side of an overpass is far worse than plain concrete.

Murals seem to last just fine here in Seattle and in the Nordic countries. Maybe your city needs to buy better paint?

No one is above the law.

No one poor is above the law.

As autocracy expands, so does the definition of "poor".

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." - Wilhoit's Law

I'm sorry, have you been in a coma the last 8 - 50 years?

How many lawsuits were dropped and people pardoned at the discretion of the sitting president? Wasn't he the target of many legitimate lawsuits that were dropped? Didn't he pardon a bunch of people, including convicted fraudsters who grifted millions of dollars, relatively recently?

Somebody in particular is above the law, as are all his cronies.

Except the ones the Supreme Court says are.

How about president with felonies?

Strictly true but practically false. SCOTUS decided in Trump v. United States that core Article II actions by the president are completely above the law. Official actions are presumed to be immune from criminal liability. Non-official acts are not immune but get a free trip up to SCOTUS for adjudication before any trial can start. The one exception is if Congress impeaches.

If only that were true

A command line version of SimTower.

I was curious to see if someone would mention this. I would play that game as a teenager for a day and then ragequit only to come back a week later. I hate-loved that game.

Doing all the things YouTube does, like transcode videos, gets complicated quick.

At the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, we created our own video hosting site, https://mediahub.unl.edu/ (https://github.com/unl/UNL_MediaHub) to self-host videos for when avoiding government or k-12 firewalls is desirable as well as integrating with rev.com for captioning.

It's really unfortunate that higher education hasn't banded together more often to develop projects of mutual interest.

It might be a nice business for someone to put together "eduTube" - a video platform for educational institutions. It would have a annual fee per organization based on size.

It would: * allow archiving, or display with sunset on certain lectures * be available to university libraries, lecturers and student projects. * have less stringent content rules because educational * allow each institution could dictate what their rules were * allow institutions to determine who got what type of access

I would do it, but I am kinda soft on the video transcoding skills. Maybe UNL could work on expanding the service, with a fee, to other universities.

I’m not sure how much transcoding skills you need beyond ffmpeg; that’s what everyone uses.

Your point about coordination is a great one. In a perfectly rational world, even and economically self-interested one, there are many ways that the thousands of educational institutions around the country could pool their money to build something better than YouTube for their use case. But coordination is hard (I certainly don’t have any magic answers) so they each roll the dice with YouTube itself

You're still speaking in a generality like the parent post is complaining about with the press coverage.

There would be a big difference between Jones saying "the shooting was fake, it was a hoax" versus "that father on screen, John Smith, is a liar and an actor and doesn't even have a kid plus he's probably a pedo".

Well, which is it? What did Jones actually say about Sandy Hook? That seems to never get reported.

Well, which is it? What did Jones actually say about Sandy Hook? That seems to never get reported.

It gets reported all the time. It's both. Jones has said the shooting was fake/hoax, and Jones has called the parents liars and actors and said that they were making up the shooting for financial gain. In other words, libel.

He has literally said both. He has accused specific parents of being liars and actors, and has revealed their contact information to the point where many of them received death threats from his followers.
