I would like to see an analysis of startups that passed two years of age. That sounds to me like enough time to learn how it feels and learn and experience most of the issues in running a small business, and not enough time that it's "wasted".
If it turns out that 70% of 3 or 4 year old startups fail, then I'd say it's a seriously bad tradeoff.
