No, it is not a typo. We were founded in 2004.

Ah, cool, I stand corrected (I also just verified via the KVK number, for anyone else who happens upon this comment and cares).

Did nothing happen until recently? Even as of 2023 everything on the website was in the future tense. "It is the intention of SIA to...", "Funding will be provided..."

Hello there! I am the Program Manager for IAE. No we are not a full mirror but are busy building alliances here in Europe.

Please do think about a full mirror. The Software Heritage mirror partner ENEA might be good people to talk to. I think grnet might also be a future SWH mirror.

We met with them at FOSDEM - good people! https://bsky.app/profile/internetarchive.eu/post/3lho6kdye5k...

Yup! We're here and looking to do good work with Cultural Heritage and Research Organizations in Europe. I'm very happy to be working with the Internet Archive once again after a 20 year long break.

What kind of volunteer help can the community do?

Great question and thank you for asking it. I don't know at this point as we're still ramping up. At this point, it would be helpful to follow us on bluesky and mastodon and help spread the word about our efforts.

Brewster is giving a speech on Tuesday March 18 at the University of Leiden. Not sure if you're in Europe, or in the Netherlands, but we're here.

Congratulations!

Thanks Kragen. Hope you're doing alright.

Not really, but I'm very glad you are.

My father wrote that and he just changed the opening line to include all of his grandchildren, not just his niece as he originally wrote it. I will be reading it to David in the near future. He's only 6. I don't know of any other narratives, but I know he was talking to John Lasseter about Lignin to maybe get the idea into movie form.

As someone who grew up there in the 70s and 80s this feels very much like an academic exercise in mental masturbation by someone who has never been there. It was an interesting read, but felt very separated from the reality I experienced.

I was a kid then, but my folks were beatniks. I never felt hippie-enough living there, but now am glad that my folks weren’t strung out as I had a pretty idyllic childhood; riding horses and being free to roam the village until dinner time but not as feral as some of my classmates.

Thanks for the link! I'm working on the documentary and as we don't have a distributor we're doing what we can. We know that people all over the world would like to see it. We have to develop subtitles and reach out to theaters in each country to partner with them. It's a lot of work. If anyone has suggestions of art houses in the country they are located, please send them to us! We are partnering with independent cinemas because they are really hurting because of the pandemic, so any venue that partners with us gets 50/50 split of profits.

I watched the documentary last night and it was fantastic. Wonderful work and thank you.

I'm so glad. I will pass on your comment to the film-makers. We've been a bit overwhelmed. I updated the website today with almost 100 cinemas we're partnering with and I'm hoping it doesn't crash. ::fingers-crossed::

Yup a lot of Age of Empire is used in the documentary. Finding that Observer material in Microfilm set them down the merry path. My father was excitedly telling me about it when they discovered it. He really couldn't believe it.

Thanks for posting this. I'm working on the documentary. We're having a live Q&A in 5 hours with the director Taghi Amirani, the editor and co-writer my father Walter Murch, and actor Ralph Fiennes who portrays Darbyshire. The Q&A is moderated by Jon Snow of Channel 4 news. This is exclusive access if you buy your ticket to our online premiere now! It's on our website.

We're having our general release on Friday. It's available in the USA, UK, Ireland and Canada. We're going country by country because we don't have a distributor.
