I believe it was a bunch of them in a trenchcoat!

Do we have proof of that though. Other than "China bad" and the parent company being partially owned by China. It's really banning it on a hypothetical and TikTok doesn't exist in a vacuum. There are many other platforms and I would argue that X does more censorship than TikTok does.

Yeah, I think there is lots evidence that social media companies use their platform to support favourable narratives. X is one example.

X spinning a pro X narrative is problematic, just as it is bad Facebook hid their problem with teenage mental health, etc... all these types of things are problematic and can often harm people and society.

The reason TikTok is a greater concern is that TikTok is fully controlled by China, and that hence it is not just pro TikTok narratives that might be amplified but any narrative China wants to amplify. The risks are greater, and the existing mitigations are weaker as the company isn't US owned.

If you ask me, the US in recent history has had incredibly anemic corporate regulation, and there should be a lot more intervention to prevent companies acting nefariously.

Just to be clear, your position is that it could be used by China, not that it is being used? I agree with this position.

And that's sufficiently concerning to nip this in the bud now. It is either happening or could be made to happen with ease and neither of those are good outcomes.

Author/OP here: ya "simple" is a relative word and I tried to address that with a few sentences around it. Didn't want to come across as an "internet arm chair expert" since I don't have a lot of experience in at scale content moderation.

On the other hand, I don't think posting the same spam nearly 1k times in 24 hours shouldn't raise some sort of alarm. 1 manual take down of a spam by a human should trigger a search (or have an option) to trigger a search through recent comments to see ones that are close. If I can search their whole site in 3 seconds they should have some sort of system that looks for 95% simular comments.

Seems simple but I am sure it's actually much much harder and has caveats and gotchas along the way as it scales.

I mean, you suggest using AI to scan comments/code.

Maybe think harder and don't avoid a certain tech that is in a bubble and may soon be sued out of existence.

I do agree, github and other places that allow user generated content need to do a better job. I have more bots than humans following on twitter (and I have thousands of followers), for example, however trying to say "AI CAN FIX IT" won't win you any favors.

FYI I have a suggestion, maybe spin up said AI model on AWS and try scanning all the comments/issues github receives in a day. When even Microsoft can't pay your bill, you'll see why they do not yet use AI for that...though I'm sure they will try eventually.

Some fair points, but also a lot of "old person complains about new things and young people".

Yes, I submitted the page because I thought it would give people a good laugh.

But there's also something we can learn from this page: Specifically, what is a bad attitude to have towards change? What are the kinds of changes we need to anticipate?

And even though it's okay to decide that we aren't going to support some new technology, how we deliver the message helps our credibility. (He claims to be a computer science.) If this guy was using a CMS, he probably wouldn't need to worry about supporting mobile browsers. I think if all he said was, "I like making my HTML by hand and I don't have time to rewrite it all," his tone wouldn't be as insulting.

They would most likely "burn" them which means giving control, transferring ownership, of those NFTs to a wallet address that no one controls which means they are out of circulation.

I assume they see using a standard NFT contract which doesn't have any way of taking control of those NFTs once ownership is to that burner address. It would be impossible.

"Thinkst canary" I think you're thinking about. https://canary.tools/

Yes that's the one, thanks.

Simular situation. For the mx4's they sound so much better when ANC is turned on rather than off imo. Especially the bass/lower frequencies.

I agree with that, they sound great... The tinnitus doesnt.

Zoho is a good option if it's just you and you want a custom domain for your email. Used them for a few years without needing to pay. Moved over to proton mail (paid) for my email now, it comes with cloud storage, calandar, and VPN too. You also get simpleLogin included, a mail forwarding service for your custom domain names so you can make burner email addresses if you want.

I migrate my family to zohos family plan when all the crap started with the free google plan. Been about a year and no complaints. Zohos spam filters are much better too imho.

Did you try pasting an image into an email yet in Proton?

Though you need a lot more AC during the summer. Something solar could provide but until it's more ubiquitous most power would still come from fossil fuels.

Please stop spamming your link everywhere. You know people can see your post history?
