Yes.

"TL;DR: for the love of Cthulhu don’t buy it. If you want an Arm-based Unix laptop get an Apple MacBook and run either macOS, Asahi Linux or OpenBSD."

TLDR: It's the worst tech market I've ever seen, and I started back in the late 90s. However, there _are_ still jobs to be had.

I had a feeling I was gonna get laid off late last year, so I started my job search immediately on January 1st. As expected, I got laid off at the end of March... even so, it still took me another two months before I landed a new job.

In terms of raw stats, I applied to 175+ roles, got callbacks from maybe 20% of those, and received a single offer (which I accepted). Fortunately, my new job is still a full-remote role; I was worried I'd have to accept an on-site or hybrid role. Almost every single interview I had was doing the HackerRank/LeetCode thing; the company that extended me the offer was the only one that didn't.

So stupid. It was plainly obvious how ineffective it was, compared to pseudoephedrine, anytime you got sick.

A decent summary: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linus-Torvalds-Russian-Devs

TLDR: A recent Linux kernel patch removed a number of maintainers from the official MAINTAINERS file that recognizes all of the driver and subsystem maintainers, all of whom appear to be Russian or associated with Russia.

And FWIW I don't see a problem in what Linus said just now. He says there have been people on the email threads "using multiple random anonymous accounts to try to "grass root" [the MAINTAINERS file changes]", and that he won't be changing anything.

Maybe he has more context than he’s letting on or is allowed to share. I dunno. The whole thing is odd to me.

>And FWIW I don't see a problem in what Linus said just now.

Hmm...

>I'm Finnish. Did you think I'd be supporting Russian aggression? Apparently it's not just lack of real news, it's lack of history knowledge too.

So you think blatant racism against anyone who happened to be born in Russia is OK? What the fuck is wrong with you? How are comments like this appropriate from such a large open source project that has developers from all over the world working together?

Thank you for this. If there were bad actors then I fully support Linus being down the hammer because the kernel project is vital infrastructure. On the other hand i find open source projects like the Linux kernel and the work being done at CERN and the even the international space station — all this multinational collaboration I think is good for society and for peace. So I hope and pray they can figure it out.

I’ve known a handful of Russians in my day and have worked with some Eastern European engineers from Ukraine and Russia and Estonia and every one of them has impressed me.

I mean take the Clickhouse database for example that came out of Yandex. It’s awesome! Anyways I’m probably far too gullible and naive but that’s my hope is that while the nations might be at war the collective group of hackers that make things like Linux as awesome as it is keep it about the code. Except it’s always bad actors that screw everyone and everything be they spy agencies or just trolls.
