I pay for Youtube premium to not have to see ads and potentially be manipulated by them.

Yet I still have to watch a lot of ads there, since for a large chunk of content creators, the economic model of Youtube doesn’t seem to work and they additionally include inline ads.

Amazing how good eye tracking works on my phone (15 Pro).

Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to press buttons via blinking, only by "dwelling" on an item for a few seconds, which makes using my phone feel quite hectic and prone to to inadvertent inputs to me.

I think interfering with a biological necessity that is there to maintain eye health probably isn't a good candidate for HID input. I suspect the user would end up with very dry eyes, as they subconsciously/consciously refrained from blinking, even if it were only long blinks (which I do often if my eyes feel the need).

Now I could see a wink working! Left wink, right wink. And, with a wink, you don't lose tracking during the action (just half the signal).

This is built for accessibility for people with extreme impairments. Think quadriplegic, ALS, nervous system disorders, etc.

Talk about eye health...are there any studies of long term IR exposure on the eyes? (I am assuming they are using IR sensors.)

It's unclear why an iPhone would be worse than a 60W light bulb, or the sun, both of which emit so much IR you can feel the heat with your hands.

Why not double blink? Or a flare of the nose?

Interesting, it's practically useless on my iPhone 13 (non-Pro) due to being extremely jittery and inaccurate

Mine doesn’t work at all on a 16 Pro. Maybe due to astigmatism?

It’s terrible for me too. Mild astigmatism and amblyopia. It’s now got me wondering how well I’d get along with Vision Pro.

I also have the Vision Pro and it’s not perfect for me. It definitely struggles with precision. Actually, now that you mention it, it felt very similar to my poor experience with the 16 pro.

It's really bad on my iPhone 13. Surprised they released it here. After one or two clicks it needs to recalibrate. There doesn't seem to be a way to not click on things either. No way to change apps. After the third recalibration, I selected "yes" to "would you like to disable eye tracking", and while eye tracking was disabled, I also lost access to swiping down on the control center or swiping up on the app switcher. Had to restart the phone to get things back to a usable place.

Just tried it on a 16 Pro Max and it’s insanely good. I really expected it to be a lot more random and buggy, but had no problem navigating the phone and “clicking” buttons etc.

This is basically the sort of “future tech” I imagined as a kid. We can now talk to computers and they talk back (ChatGPT, Apple Intelligence, etc) and flawless navigate our portable super computers just by looking at them.

Hectic is a good way to describe it. I was frantically trying to turn it off when it seemed to just start clicking on things at random.

Man this is awesome.

I‘m using a somewhat similar stack for an app in development with a monorepo consisting of a Postgres backend (Rails) + Expo (with Router) + Tamagui + Redux Toolkit. And, as one would expect, it’s been quite a struggle, to say the least.

But currently this is one of the few viable stacks imo for a small team or sole developer to serve both native mobile platforms and the web in a decent quality.

So it’s kind of cool that with One there is now a framework available that brings all those great tools together in a polished and structured way.

Can’t wait to give it a try next week. Could make things a lot smoother.

Banks generally support HBCI standard (in Central/Western Europe)

Thats why using apps like Outbank, that automatically aggregate all your bank accounts data work like a charm in my experience.

There are still some high profile people posting great content for free there, especially if you are into tech and/or finance.

True, but I am still surprised that's compelling enough to put up with using Twitter.

Ranger or hunter.

This just is one of many examples which show that designing great User Interfaces is (still) more of an art than science, e.g. rigid math based design systems tend to fail in practice.

Since it is such a common and useful word, I hope Facebook looses this case, as I would find it sad if that word is associated with their company by most people for the foreseeable future.

I would recommend to consume only low THC + high CBD strains.(1)

For me the difference of these strains to some of the modern high THC + low CBD ones is comparable to drinking a good glass of wine versus chugging down some highly potent moonshine.

Some moderns strains are completely overbred and dangerous to some people in my experience.(2)

Knowing the Germans, I‘m optimistic, they‘ll regulate it properly, so that everything you will be able to buy legally, should be quite safe.

This is getting ridiculous imo.

I‘m sure some people find your breath and/or your body odor/perfume gross.

So should they be able to force you to wear a mask or keep a distance of say at least 6ft at all times?
