The purpose was to do the following in the most succinct way possible: help the reader quickly make sense of a bizarre trend, show how businesses are meeting demand, and how others could also.
I think the presentation probably came across as (overly) opportunistic.
Here’s the thing though, people are eager to buy meme merch (this isn’t a bad thing). Businesses also want to make money but are probably worried that demand will dry out once this trend ends. I’m saying that if this meme ends up lasting like doge did, then that’s not an issue.
