I just set this up yesterday, was quite easy.

I have set up a Siri Shortcut on my phone so that I can disable the blocking for 5 minutes very easily. Highly recommended if you have family members that occasionally need something unblocked.

How does one acquire this kind of magic?

Local RAID of SSD.

Correct

I wonder how long until they are available on Amazon.

Chromecast will be available for $35 starting Wednesday from Amazon, Google Play and Best Buy. Best Buy will also carry the device in stores later this month.

I waited to order mine from Google in hopes of getting Prime shipping from Amazon... hope I didn't miss out entirely.

Just ordered from Amazon, guaranteed by the 26th.

same here.

The Chrome G+ post said this afternoon.

I actually like the new look, a few of the icons seem off, but I bet they grow on me. The transparency and layers makes a ton of sense to me. Really love control center, I can't wait to have easy access to my brightness. New Photos app looks amazing. Airdrop will be fantastic. New background / multitasking is a huge win.

Biggest let down, no inter-app communication improvements. I think that's a huge problem on iOS now, one I was hoping would be addressed.

The control center on the lockscreen is pretty hilarious to me. I can't wait to put my friends' iphones into airplane mode when they aren't looking, and see how long it takes them to figure it out.

Totally. If they had announced a back button, I would have been ecstatic.

Can you please explain why transparency makes sense to you?

Maybe I won't like it in practice, but they sold me on "providing context."

You can barely see anything through that. Watch the parts where hes scrolling through photos, it's just a massive blur.

Olde' Vista Aero did this better.

Aero Glass showed exactly why UI translucency isn't a good idea. It made every single window title bar noisy and hard to read.

At least iOS 7 cranks up the blur radius.

Can you override (with or without a jail break?)

T-Mobile includes the personal hotspot at no extra charge. I just switched from AT&T too and have been really happy so far. My phone only gets Edge speeds right now, only because they haven't "reframed" their cell towers yet. (not exactly sure what that entails, but I understood it to mean that after reframing my phone would be on 4G, have better reception, etc.)

This TmoNews post should give you a bit more information on what the "refarming" means: http://www.tmonews.com/2013/05/why-now-is-a-great-time-to-be...

Basically they currently have GSM on the 1900MHz band and HSPA+ on the AWS bands (1700/2100). They're in the process of reducing the capacity allocated to GSM, splitting HSPA+ onto all the frequency ranges, and adding limited LTE on the AWS bands. Later on they're going to reduce the GSM capacity a bit further while expanding the LTE capacity on the AWS bands. There's a nice little chart that shows this much better than I described it, while continuing to gloss over any technical details.
