I have registered in January 27 2009 to github, but I have been running my own git repository on a dedicated server for quite some time. I have never really been active at github or any other third party repository service. The reason I want to self manage my hosting is that I can get cheaper private repositories.
If the goal is to have questions which can be answered only with yes or no. I don't think asking for location of the person is good thing, because there would be so many questions as there is locations.
"Do you live in China, India, The United States, Indonesia, Brazil or Pakistan?" is not good question.
This past summer I biked about 10 kilometers a day over 45 days. This is around 450 kilometers and I know I biked even more, but did not count how much after those first 45 days as biking was not daily routine anymore. Last Friday I put my bike into storage as it is so damn cold here in Finland already. Next summer I will probably try to get 1,000 kilometers.
How can someone say, "You own an operating system brand (Windows) that 91% of all computer owners in the world have installed on their system (June 2013). How is this not awesome?"
The customers do not even make the decision of buying Microsoft Windows operation system, but that is the only thing being sold to them alongside the Personal Computers they want. Personally I have pretty much only hate for Microsoft, but I can not argue if this statement is awesome when the statement is at least in my mind absolutely wrong.
The customers do not even make the decision of buying Microsoft Windows operation system
Oh pish posh - that's just not true, not in any way, shape, or form. If we're talking about "regular people" buying computers (mom, dad, etc), they absolutely choose Windows when they go to the "computer store", play around on a new PC, and walk out with it. How can you act as if they had no choice? The Apple Store opened almost a decade ago yet these people chose Windows as their OS instead. If we're talking "enterprise/company employees", it's likely that their base OS was pre-chosen for them but, that said, at some point a higher up IT person chose Windows because of Apple's choices 20+ years ago w/ respect to having servers and networking being first class citizens of the OS/environment.
You can hate MSFT all you want but to act as though, 91% of the time, people did not make a decision is just willfully ignorant or foolish.
Oh pish posh - maybe it is not completely true, but as far as I have seen it is.
The Apple versus Microsoft computer decision for regular people buying computers is more about the price of the computer than the operation system. If you ever go and work on the other side of the "computer store" you should see that most of the customers do come to buy a computer and not an operation system and often they do not even understand how powerful computer they need.
Of course there are those who have heard that Apple computers are good and buy Apple because of that, but those who do not have money for Apple computers do buy Microsoft computers because they do not have other choice at least here in Finland as we do not have any Linux or BSD computers on sale and probably never have had one on a regular home electronics store at least I have not seen.
It is also such a fiasco trying to sell Windows 8 computers when the customers who do not have money for Apple computers do not want Windows 8 because of the bad rumors which have gone really far and even beyond. They only decide to buy these Windows 8 computers because we do not have any Windows 7 computers on sale anymore and they are not ready to buy another operation system because they know someone on their family will pirate Windows 7. Those who do not know how to replace Windows 8 are stuck with it.
So where does a regular customer have the option to decide the operation system for the hardware they want in the store? There is only Microsoft until customer has enough cash to pay for Apple.
Oh boy I forgot about Chrome OS. It's cheap and people buy it because of the cheap price, but the return amount has been pretty damn high, because Chrome OS just can not do what those little more advanced computer users want like native gaming. Even the regular people want to install some game like diablo 2 on their system.
Of course in enterprise the decision is done, because these IT persons do know the options exists, but regular customers usually do not.
I am saying that the decision for customer to select different operation systems has been made for them for quite some time by the computer manufacturers.
it's awesome if you care about market distribution, which was one of the major arguments for iOS apps. it's terrible in terms of personal choice. agreed.
I know connections between people can be quite awesome and important. It is even more awesome if they can discuss about something important and give their opinion and listen to your opinion without starting a fight. When there is a problem it is good to have someone to ask help from.
I maybe have one true friend and we mutually keep our friendship active. Then there are those who may drink coffee or have a beer with me now and then, but we never really talk about anything important. Then there are those so called social media friends who really do not care what you do. Then there are these few people who use my kindness quite often for help as they have found I will most likely help them anyway I can.
Seriously I have tried to keep in contact with people who may some day become great people. The problem I have is that I lose motivation to stay in one way contact when the other does not seem to care a shit how my days go even though I try all kinds of things to get them active even though I am not in need of any kind of help at the moment, but in future I might be.
It's not like I want to be liked, but maybe a call to a bar and have fun once would be nice. Why it always has to be me who initiates almost every damn discussion or happening where I could take part in this tiny circle of my so called friends. These days I don't even care to try and just let them be and answer them if they have a problem.
When talking about these connections with famous people you could take advantage of I often do not even press the send button because I've realized my own stupidity after explaining my problem in the email. I'm not looking for help. I'm just stating that lonely people can solve problems and have fun too, though if someone would see me having fun alone they probably would say I'm going nuts.
That's just human nature. People don't care how you're doing unless it benefits them now, or possibly in the future. I just learn not to rely on human interaction for my life satisfaction.
Thanks for asking. It was fine after driving few girls from bar to their homes and getting back home to sleep until 10 am and then I went and did chemistry exam at university. After that I played little GTA 5 and then I went and took ~10 kilometer bike ride in this cold Finnish autumn. While on the bike ride I took a break at a student restaurant in the town and drank few coffee cups alone. Once I got back home from the bike ride I have just been lazing off and been thinking what to do the whole next week as autumn holidays from university started today.
I have not been long at HN, but I have noticed how much more in the past year more general topics like politics have risen here.
Thing is I do not really care that much what are posted into here, people are pretty much free to post almost anything interesting. What I dislike is that most of the stuff is resubmitted from another news site pretty often. Though it is not as bad as one automatic news aggregation website I use to check my local news. Though the reason why I can live with these things is that my brain has become my best spam filter.
The only thing I really do not like is how popular HN has become among news sites on picking stories to their own site. Just few weeks back one blog article posted into here got their way into a local news site and this news site was even doing horrible job at quoting the blog article.
The level of journalism has fallen so much and they can use web sites like hacker news to pick up stories which should bring visitors to their own site. Hacker News, Reddit and every other news discussion site provides good statistics for news papers what to put on their site for people who do not visit these websites we use.
If you want bots and some real people to follow you who are trying the same. Join twiends.com it's a follower exchange and you get 10 credits per day for visiting the site which equals 5 twitter followers. If you want to play ugly actually use the exchange and few weeks later some mass unfollow tool. This is pretty damn ugly way to get followers and I know it because I did it almost two years ago and in a month gained around 10k followers, afterwards I stopped doing it and the follower count has slowly been degrading.
Though if you want actual followers who discuss with you. Follow those tags and reply on their tweets. Some might actually enjoy that you replied to them even though you are not following them and start following you.
