I think some of it is organic, but it has been interesting to watch city park organizations build (or convert old tennis courts into) new pickleball facilities. It helps to have something that is both active and easy to start. You don't have to be particularly in shape at the beginning, gear needs are low, can be done year-round.
Group activities like this are great for finding your people. You will likely encounter another competitive, technically minded person and no one will be offended if you split into your own group/universe
I love getting ebooks from my library. I can even request new books within my system that aren't out yet, then when they're released and purchased by the library, they are automatically put on hold and added to my account.
Do we have a word for "pining over something you never got to experience?" The whole born in the wrong generation effect. FWIW, arcades were always alive and well in movie theaters. Maybe not the big, expansive arcades, but <30 year olds at least understand the concept (also Dave & Busters, GameWorks, other similar outfits)
