He was certainly not predestined, but his inclinations and temperaments did distinguish him. True some luck is involved; it is a necessary part, but individuals are often what induces the procuring of wealth.


If you monte carloed it, I’m sure he would do way better than average, but given how rare the current outcome is, I firmly believe it is mostly luck.


Could it be that the technical nature of your website creates a biased sample? I'd estimate that the difference between Firefox and Chrome users in spoofing their user-agent and blocking trackers is far less than the bias created by sampling HN for example.


Absolutely, but since that's my target audience, that's the number I personally look at. Statements like "no one uses FF" don't apply. How skewed each target audience is from the global average is meaningful.


I don't know how; but I find that you said that ingenious. This comment section is full of touting it as a positive (somehow?) and being pessimistic about U.S. capabilities today in comparison to China. No one seems to mention that all this is unnecessary wastefulness. World hunger would have been solved decades earlier had they not hindered the productive output of those folk expended on such wastefulness.
